Snowmaiden

Yevgenia (Zhenya) Shatokhina is the artist who painted this beautiful box. The box's lid shows the Snowmaiden walking through the winter forest accompanied by a deer. On the box's sides Shatokhina continues to paint the winter landscape. The work is drawn in light green and blue tones of tempera paints suitable for depiction of a winter scene. Most of the fine detail is added with the use of gold and aluminum paint that touches every feature of the scene.
The box is constructed out of high-quality paper-mache. Black lacquer is used to paint the exterior and red lacquer is used to paint the interior of the box. The exterior is decorated with elegant gold ornaments. The lid isn't hinged, and the box rests on three feet. The work is signed with the artist's name, the year of 2006 and the village of Palekh.
