Scarlet Flower

It depicts a scene from the popular Russian fairy-tale "The Scarlet Flower", written by Russian writer S.T. Aksakov. The tale is very similar to what we know today as "Beauty and the Beast." This thrilling tale tells about love of a beautiful girl and a horrible beast that afterwards will turn into a handsome prince.

Here the artist displayed filigree skill in decorating small objects with amazing precision. Each figure of the composition is richly detailed with brilliant gold paints and pieces of mother-of pearl.
The scene is framed with a gold band.
The box is constructed from paper-mache. Black lacquer is used to paint the exterior of the piece while red lacquer completes the interior of the work. The lid is hinged to the left of the composition, and the box rests flat. Signed with the artist's name, Fedoskino and the year of 2020.
