The work is shows a puppeteer who manipulates an inanimate object, a puppet. The puppet looks like a scamp , because it shows a tongue to his Master and tries to cut the tiny ropes.
Like many of Anokhin's creations this work carries a hidden philosophic idea. This idea is expressed in the following poem:
... threads are not chains,
threads hold you tenderly,
be careful
and don't break with your creator.
The composition is framed with a gold hand-painted line, another gold line can be found on the sides of the box. The sides of the box are decorated with figures of the humans, animals and mythical objects.
The box is constructed out of paper-mache. Dark blue lacquer covers the exterior and cream gray lacquer covers the interior of the box. The box has a hinge to its top and rests on four rounded metal legs. The work is signed with the artist's name on the right side of the lid.
