This attractive round-shaped box has been painted by Olga Kolygina from the village of Palekh. The work is called "Winter", and shows peasants feeding birds. The scene is drawn in brown, blue and red tones of tempera paints. Gold and aluminum are used to outline and limn extra details into the scene.
The scene is framed with a simple gold ornamentation. More complex gold ornamentation accented with aluminum decorates the box's sides.
The box is constructed from paper-mache. Black lacquer is used to paint the exterior of the box while red lacquer completes the interior of the work. The lid isn't hinged, and the box rests on a flat bottom. The work is signed with the artist's name, the title, the year of 2006 and the village of Palekh.
