This box was created by Olga Tsyganova from the village of Palekh. It features the fair, and certainly the merchants with their goods and the buyers. The main heroine of the composition is the peasant woman who came to the fair to sell her goat. The left part of the scene shows the woman looking after her goat. In the center the woman sells her goat to a respectable merchant. When she receives money, she buys the full basket of necessary things, and even the parasol that save ladies from the sunrays. Now she fells herself like one of these rich elegant ladies.
The scene is painted in bright orange, red, green and blue tones against the black background. It is richly detailed with gold paints.
The scene is framed with the elegant pattern composed of gold beads and scrolls, while the sides of the box are decorated with more complex gold and aluminum floral ornamentation.
The box is constructed from paper-mache. Black lacquer is used to paint the exterior of the piece while red lacquer completes the interior of the work. A hinge is fastened to the top of the composition. The box rests on four legs. It is signed by the artist at the bottom of the composition in gold paints.
