Scarlet Flower/Beauty and a Beast

Well-known Fedoskino master Vlad Maslov is a telent who has painted this large multi-sided casket with several compartments. The painting shows the scenes from the Russian tale, "Scarlet Flower". The tale is very similar to what we know today as "Beauty and the Beast." This thrilling tale tells about love of a beautiful girl and a horrible beast that afterwards will turn into a handsome prince.

Combining blue and green tones of oils with a sparkle of mother-of-pearl inlay artist has managed to express a magical atmosphere of the tale. This atmosphere is strengthened by gold and silver powders as well as by applying three-dimensional elements as the trees and their branches. A grandiose work has been done to create such an impressive box!!!
The box's exterior is covered with various scenes from the tale. Its interior is covered with red lacquer. The interior of the casket under the lid has the painted faces of the three sisters. The beast is painted on the interior of the lid. Small plate of mother-of-peal is glued on the lid's interior. On this purl plate the artist has written his name and the title of the work.
The box is constructed from paper-mache. The lid is hinged from the top of the painting, and the box rests on four legs.
