Sergey Kirsanov from the village of Fedoskino is known as a talented landscape painter. Being enchanted with the beauty of modest Russian nature, he created a series of works painted on this theme. These creations are penetrated the feeling of deep love to his native land with its ramshackle peasant houses, small wooden churches, boundless expanses of snow covered fields and evergreen forests. The palette is filled with the tones that correspond to the depicted winter scene. To create a glow of the sunset the artist has used a mother-of-pearl inlay that shines beautifully in the skies with pink and yellow undertones.
The exterior is covered with black lacquer. For the box's additional decoration this black lacquered area is studded with very thin gray veins that frames the painting on a lid.
The box is constructed from paper-mache. A hinge is fastened to the top of the scene, and the box rests on a flat bottom. The work is signed with the artist's name.
