This attractive sea composition is a creation of the famous Fedoskino artist Alexey Valyalin. During his vacation at the Black Sea, he visited the Museum of Art in Feodosia (Crimea, Ukraine), and was greatly impressed by the paintings of the great Russian seascape painter, Ivan Aivazovsky. This occasion influenced his decision to become an artist and paint seascapes.Later, in his youth he served in the navy, and this fact may explain his love towards the sea and ships also.
The scene is brilliantly painted in the realistic style. The scene is framed with two gold line while the box's sides are decorated with other two parallel gold lines as well. The exterior of the box is painted black, the interior is traditionally red.
The box is constructed from paper-mache. It has a hinge from the top of the scene, and the box rests flat. The work is signed with the artist's name and the village of Fedoskino.
Delightful work with a fascinating atmosphere!
