Shepherd Boy

Larisa Mazurina of Palekh has created this peaceful composition displaying a shepherd pasturing cows. Egg-tempera paint is the primary medium used to compose this adorable work. Warm colors and well placed gold contours look wonderful against the black background which blankets the scene.
The scene is framed with gold beads. The box's sides are adorned with more complex gold leafy pattern that blooms with silver flowers.
The box is constructed from paper-mache. Black lacquer is used to paint the exterior of the box while red lacquer completes the interior of the work. The lid isn't hinged, and the box rests on four legs. The work is signed with the artist's name, the year of 2004 and the village of Palekh.
