Summer time!

This peaceful scene has been painted by Yvgeniya Bonokina from the village of Palekh. This box shows a summer activity of Russian villagers.
Having gone far away from a small village, women and girls stroll in the woods, filling their baskets with ripe, mellow berries. Not only people, but also different beasts like to eat with delight mellow berries. Forests in Russia are rich in different gifts of nature. It's possible to find there a variety of various berries such as the wild raspberry and strawberry, the whortle-berry, the cranberry and in-numerous number of mushrooms. Also we can see a romantic pair in a boat, shepherd with cows, field flowers... 
The palette is based on earth tones that convey the sense of the rural atmosphere. Gold and aluminum paint details a majority of the scene, which makes the details bring the scene to life. The entire scene sparkles brightly with gold and aluminum.
The box is constructed from paper-mache. Black lacquer is used to paint the exterior of the box while red lacquer completes the interior of the work. The exterior is decorated with rich and intricate gold ornaments. A hinge is fastened to the top of the scene, and the box rests on a flat bottom. The work is signed with the artist's name, Palekh, and the year of 2013.
