This box painted by well-known artist Viktor Tretiakov shows the traditional theme of a speeding troika. This tradition sprang from the very beginning of lacquer ware production in Russia when the first lacquer workshop was founded by Peter Korobov in the village of Danilkovo (now Fedoskino). At that time the theme of peasant everyday life was very popular among painters.
On this box we can see a coachman controlling the three horses. On the back of the composition we can see beautiful winter landscape and houses of the Russian village.
The scene is painted in various shades of gray oils suitable for reproduction of a winter day. Details on a painting are amazing!
Composition is bordered with a golden line.Two parallel gold lines are decorated the sides of the box.
The box is constructed from paper-mache. Black lacquer is used to paint the exterior of the box while red lacquer completes the interior of the work. The box has a hinge from the top of the scene, and rests on wavy legs. The work is signed by the artist.
