Snowmaiden

This box has been painted by talented Mstera artist Antonina Medvedeva. It depicts a scene from the Russian folk fairy-tale "Snowmaiden".
To reproduce the atmosphere of winter the artist uses the palette filled with different shades of blue and green paints. The composition is complex and includes various details: thoroughly painted human figure, architecture and winter forest. Creativity and tradition are abundant. The composition is framed with a silver line and then decorated with the original pattern painted in aluminum. The aluminum pattern wraps around the sides of the box.
The box is made out of paper-mache. Black lacquer covers the exterior and red lacquer covers the interior of the box. The lid is hinged from the left of the composition and the box rests on a flat bottom. The artist has signed the box in aluminum the title of the piece, "Snowmaiden", the village of Mstera, and her initials.
