This interesting box painted by a talented Fedoskino artist Oleg Nechaev. It depicts several characters from the popular Russian fairy-tale "Golden Rooster", written by Pushkin.
The scene is mostly painted in contrast oils-blacks on white. The artist masterfully used golden foil and golden paint to richly highlighted the details of the characters.
The box's exterior is decorated with so called "scan patterns" composed of tiny beads and romps hand punched from silver metal sheets and then painstakingly affixed by hand to the box.
The box is constructed from paper-mache. Black lacquer is used to paint the exterior of the box while red lacquer completes the interior of the work. The lid is hinged to the left of the scene, and rests flat. Signed with the artist's name and title "Golden Rooster" under the composition.
