Meeting at the Well

A village lad is met her on a snowy path and try to talk to her.
On the background, the other women at the street start whispering. May be they spread gossips about the withdrawing woman or this village lad?
This classic composition is nicely executed by the Fedoskino artist Ludmila Rogatova. The palette of this composition is toned down and subdued to show a winter evening scene. There is a pleasant contrast between the colorful dress of the woman and the wintry landscape. The costumes of the girl and a lad are painted over metallic leaf, which really lights up the drawing.
The faces of the characters are very likable and drawn beautifully. The background is nicely drawn as well, especially the wooden huts.
The plaque is made out of paper-mache. Black lacquer covers the exterior of the wall-hang. The work is signed with the name of the artist, village and year (1998).
