Round Dance

It shows a group of girls singing and dancing in a ring, this sort of dancing is called "Round Dance" or its Russian-style version "Khorovod". This traditional scene of Russian folk life is very popular among Fedoskino artists, one of the first versions was painted by well-known established Fedoskino artist Nikolay Soloninkin.
The girls are dressed in traditional Russian attire - sarafans (dresses), bright shawls and kokoshniks (headwears). The artist has done a fine job by decorating each garment with intricate multicolored patterns, tiny tassels, pearls and ribbons. Painted in bright tones, the sarafans create a dramatic contrast with the lush foliage in the background. The viewer's eye is first drawn to the figure of the girl in the center, wearing a red sarafan and holding a handkerchief, and then travels to the bright costumes of the other girls. Each of the women has a different expression--some seem coy and flirtatious, while others are more serious and thoughtful. The background is also nicely drawn, and creates a feeling of depth. The leaves on the trees seem to emerge from the background, while some other trees are set further back. The artist adds aluminum powder, gold paint and lists of metallic gold foil to the oil-based tones in order to produce the glow in the girl's attire. Alluminum powder is also added to some parts of the landscape to create the depth of the composition. Don't miss this opportunity to buy this exceptional work!
The panel, made of paper-mache, may hang on the wall as it has two loops. The image is surrounded by a well-drawn pattern of gold flowers and leaves. The work is signed with the name of the artist, village and year (1985).
