Ruslan and Ludmila

The major character of a story, Ruslan, is painted here sit on a horse. In front of him we can see Ludmila and Finn, behind the horse we can see wicked sorcerer Chernomor. On the background we can see a Giant Head.
The scene is mostly painted in contrast oils on white background.The artist masterfully used golden foil and golden paint to richly highlighted the details of the characters.
The box's exterior is decorated with so called "scan patterns" composed of tiny beads and romps hand punched from silver metal sheets and then painstakingly affixed by hand to the box.
The box is constructed from paper-mache. Black lacquer is used to paint the exterior of the box while red lacquer completes the interior of the work. The lid is hinged to the top of the scene, and rests flat. Signed with the artist's name and title "Ruslan and Ludmila" above the composition.
