The art heritage of the great Russian painter, Konstantin Makovsky, inspires many Fedoskino artists to make the variations of his masterpieces and Victor Kanevskiy is one of them. This gorgeous box shows a version of the famous painting "Boyaryshnya Sitting at the Window and Spinning Yarn" painted by Konstantin Makovsky in 1890. This famous painting is exhibited in the Art Museum of the town of Nizhny Novgorod.
The scene is masterfully painted in the realistic style. The colors are soft and nevertheless saturated. The spinning woman's costume, her kokoshnik and jewelry, as well as the yarn itself are painted out very subtly and in detail. It is impossible not to mention the beautiful bouquet on the right, which is also painted out in great detail!
The scene is framed with a gold line, the edges of a lid are decorated with another gold line. The sides of a box are decorated with two parallel gold lines.
The box is constructed from paper-mache. Black lacquer is used to paint the exterior of the box while red lacquer completes the interior of the work. A hinge is fastened to the left of the scene, and the box rests on four legs. The work is signed with the artist's name.
