Russian Fairy Tales

This large, impressive box has been created by Olga Tsyganova from the village of Palekh. The box's lid and all its nine! sides show the scenes from different Russian folk fairy-tales.
The top of the box is showing episode from a "Tale of Apples bringing the Youth", the front side at the bottom- "Geese and Swans", front upper- "Lel and Snowmaiden", back side bottom-"Fire bird", back upper side- " Kroshechka-Havroshechka", back side to the left and bottom- "Tale of Frog Princess", opposite to it- "Tale of a Scarlet Flower/ or Beauty and a Beast", and Snake has captured the Tsarina and Ivan Tsarevich has return the Tsarina. 
Each scene is elaborately painted in tempera paints and detailed with gold metal paint. Gold and silver paint is also used to decorate the box's exterior with nice floral patterns. The box is constructed from paper-mache. Black lacquer is used to paint the exterior of the piece while red lacquer completes the interior of the work. The lid is hinged and the box rests on four legs. The work is signed by the artist's name, Palekh and 2013.
