This attractive piece was created by Fedoskino master Yevgeniy Potekhin. Fine technique and masterful detail compliment each other on this piece of quality Russian artistry. Potekhin has created many vivid compositions of everyday life which consistently represent the various sides of human nature and the events which shape it.
Here the artist depicts a woman returning home from the guests from another village in the sledge. A woman sit in the sledge pulling by a troika of horses, and a coachman is trying to talk to a woman. On the back of the composition we can see beautiful winter landscape and the last houses at the edge of a village. The dogs are following the carriage and barking at it...
The box is constructed from paper-mache. Black lacquer is used to paint the exterior of the box while red lacquer completes the interior of the work. The scene is framed with a gold line while the box's sides are decorated with two parallel gold lines. A hinge is fastened to the top of the scene, and the box rests flat. The work is signed with the artist's name.
